One of the places to visit in Malaga is the famous Caminito del Rey. The works of this popular path began in 1901 and include the popular Desfiladero de los Gaitanes in the western part of the Betic Mountain Range. The canyon is formed by walls over 300 meters high and is characterized by being particularly narrow. It is a route nestled in the limestone, at high altitude and over suspension bridges. Are you ready to live the experience?
The Caminito del Rey was built on the walls of the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes and has a length of three kilometres. The width is barely one meter! Be careful when walking! The route begins in the municipality of Ardales, continues through Antequera and ends in El Chorro, where you can take a refreshing dip in a natural pool. El Caminito del Rey is located 100 meters above the river. You can enjoy spectacular views but beware of vertigo.
One of the things to see in Malaga that you can not miss if you visit this Andalusian province is Ronda. Ronda is a municipality and city of Malaga, located northwest of the province, 100 kilometres from the capital. Ronda is characterized by being built along a plateau called Depresión de Ronda and is formed by a mountain range that protects the city.
The origins of Ronda date back to the Roman Arunda, which gave way to the Visigoths and Muslims. But why visit Ronda? Like Caminito del Rey, Ronda sits on a plateau cut by a gorge carved by the Guadalevín river; the buildings and the historic center of the city overhang a hill, so it has spectacular views; it also has a lot of monuments and must-see sites.
If you are in Ronda, be sure to cross the dizzying New Bridge; this is the most symbolic monument of the city and, until 1839, it was the tallest bridge in the world: 98 meters!
Antequera is a municipality that belongs to Malaga, in the north of the province. If you are passing through, make sure to sign up for a hiking route through the Torcal de Antequera. Although it may seem incredible, it is a straightforward route, the Torcal is 1,300 meters high, but it was once under the sea.
The Torcal de Antequera was formed over the years, rising to create one of the most idyllic and spectacular landscapes of Andalusia. The action of the wind, the water, the sun and the years have sculpted the seabed into a labyrinth of rocks you can dare to walk through. Curiously, in the Torcal de Antequera, you can find several famous rock forms among tourists: a camel, a screw, a flowerpot or a dinosaur. Find them all!
